G O K H A N Y I L D I R I M

Was born, on February 24 / 1986 in Ahlat Turkey — one of the oldest cities in the Anatolian region. Ahlat, a historic Seljuk settlement, is known as the first homeland of the Turks.

Painter Yıldırım is the second of three children in his family. In 1988, his family settled in Antalya, where he began his education. During his early primary school years, he had his first artistic experience thanks to a homework assignment from his teacher. His growing interest in art soon led him in new directions, inspiring him to participate actively in every art class and related activity. He often drew pictures for his close friends to help them earn better grades, sometimes even neglecting his own work to do so.

He took part in all kinds of school events — folklore, essay competitions, theater, and especially painting — strengthening his connection with art and later reaping the benefits of his dedication. Despite a challenging childhood, he decided early on to educate and improve himself in every aspect.

After his parents separated in 1997, he began living with his mother. This difficult period taught him responsibility at a young age. He developed a strong sense of discipline and work ethic, managing to earn a small income even as a child. Performing dances in rural tourist towns, he experienced music and art firsthand and proudly contributed his street earnings to support his schooling and daily life.

He received his first small award in 1998–1999 in an interschool handwriting and essay competition. That same year, he entered a school art competition and received his first painting award, proving his self-confidence. During his school years, he studied German language and literature, practicing it through everyday communication and summer work. In 2000, driven by curiosity, he began learning English as well, improving it through various part-time jobs. Throughout high school, he continued to develop his foreign language skills while studying and working simultaneously. Guided by the universal perspective inspired by his artistic vision, Yıldırım continued to learn additional languages over the years.

He also received theater and stage training during high school and worked on stage productions, sculptures, and paintings alongside his formal education for several years.

After his first trip abroad in 2004, his curiosity about other cultures grew stronger. In 2006, he decided to end his formal education and moved to Germany, where he lived for six months. Although he worried about the potential consequences of leaving school, he remained committed to his principle of lifelong learning. Working with many skilled masters during this period had a profound influence on his artistic growth.

In 2006, he created and sold various paintings but, lacking sufficient artistic support from his surroundings, left some projects unfinished — and several of his early works remain unaccounted for. After completing his military service in 2009, he developed an interest in the Russian language and taught himself to read and write in Russian. To improve further, he spent short periods in Russia and Ukraine, where he participated in artistic projects and left behind several works.

In 2011, he worked in Istanbul with major Turkish television networks such as ATV, Star TV, Show TV, and Kanal D, as well as with several production companies, contributing to set and stage designs and artistic works. Among his notable projects were İffet (Star TV), Yıldız Masalı (TNT), and Karadayı (ATV), where he collaborated closely with art directors. He also provided his own paintings for display and use in TV series and films, although the whereabouts of some works remain unknown. These experiences marked the first time his works appeared on television.

Working with well-known figures, Yıldırım created art for both television series and films. Around the same time, he sold one of his paintings to a prominent Istanbul businessman for a high price, establishing his reputation and opening new professional opportunities.

During this time abroad, he continued various projects and deepened his artistic experience. While living in Kyiv, he improved his Russian further and continued his professional life in both trade and art.

After returning to Turkey in 2016, he resumed his artistic work in Istanbul and Antalya. In 2019, he held his solo mixed exhibition in Istanbul. Yıldırım donates much of his artistic income to those in need and to charitable foundations. He collaborated for a time with TOÇEV, an organization guided by the principle “Every child has the right to education,” and volunteered in many social aid programs and NGOs. He continues to support humanitarian projects across Africa, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, and the Middle East.

In Germany, Yıldırım also became involved in stage arts for musical theater, contributing to productions through sculpture, puppetry, and stone carving. He collaborated with international and local theater productions such as Cats, West Side Story, The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Notre Dame, Grease, Moulin Rouge, Chicago, and others, working as part of a 50–60-person art team. His contributions ranged from stage setups and scenic design to sculpture and puppetry.

After opening his first international exhibition in 2012–2013, he temporarily stepped away from art to pursue a career in international trade, traveling extensively around the world. In 2015, he lived in Rome, Florence, and San Marino, Italy, and later spent about two years in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Between 2019 and 2023, he initiated the Anadolu Efes +1 Art Project, through which he designed, produced, and painted numerous works for Anadolu Efes, contributing artistically and creating employment opportunities for many people. After completing his collaboration with Anadolu Holding in 2023, he moved to Germany for a period.

In 2023, he continued his intensive artistic activities in his workshop in Germany while also pursuing business ventures as a sponsor of his own art.

Yıldırım speaks and writes in Turkish, German, English, Russian, some Arabic. He remains actively engaged in art, exhibitions, cultural projects, and social aid initiatives. Guided by his principle of enriching his art through global experiences, he continues to travel to many countries.

His personal interests include cycling, surfing, swimming, athletics, and golf.

Currently, he continues his artistic and professional life between Turkey and Europe, traveling frequently for both professional and volunteer projects.
